It’s in times of sickness, fear and helplessness that communities come together for the greater good of sick kids to leave a lasting impact.
Day in and day out, Olivia Jary, Director of Fundraising and Marketing witnesses firsthand how people like yourself generously choose to improve the lives of sick kids by supporting them throughout their hospital journey.
Joining Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation team in July 2019 from Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity in the UK, Olivia has dedicated over 15 years to fundraising. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience as together we strive towards positive change: healthy kids – whatever it takes.
Q. What motivated you to take on a career in fundraising?
A. I’ve had the privilege of working in the fundraising sector for most of my career. I know many young adults face uncertainties when considering which career path to pursue but I was fortunate enough to begin my career working for a grass roots health not-for-profit organisation in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was there that I witnessed the true difference health charities can make for people. From that time, my heart was always set on following a career that would make an undeniable difference to the lives of people in need and having a positive impact on society.
Q. What inspires you to come to work everyday?
A. Coming to work every day at Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation allows me to play my part in helping to make a difference to other people. Walking through the Hospital doors every morning has me in complete awe as I witness the resilience of children and their families. It’s so inspiring to see that no matter what they are going through, kids are still kids and being in hospital doesn’t always mean being sad. I am also constantly inspired by the incredible health professionals who work tirelessly, day in and day out, to get them healthy and back home as soon as possible.
It’s also an absolute pleasure to work alongside a passionate team of fundraisers and our wider team who play an integral part in ensuring sick kids have the access to the best care, state-of-the-art equipment and innovative technologies.
Q. Why is fundraising for the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation so important?
All kids, no matter where they are from deserve the very best healthcare. I’m sure we all know a child, sibling, niece, nephew or grandchild who at one stage has had an illness or injury. It’s such a frightening and daunting time for families, but it’s with the help of our supporters that we can make a big difference to each patient’s journey. Healthcare is expensive, and while we’re extremely fortunate to have access to stellar medical treatment in Australia, fundraising plays a fundamental role in facilitating world-class research, equipment and infrastructure to support families in hospital.
Q. What would you like to say to our generous supporters?
A. As an organisation, we are incredibly grateful and feel privileged that you have chosen to make a difference to the lives of sick kids in hospital. It’s because of people like you, who trust us with your donations, that we’re able to have an impact that will help reimagine the future of children’s health. We truly can’t do it alone and we are honoured that you’re a part of our community and stand with us in solidarity to achieve amazing things for sick kids. Thank you for helping us with our mission of helping to fund vital clinical care and research for sick and injured children in NSW and beyond.
