Help is on the cards for sick kids

15 July 2020

From Wednesday 15 July – Tuesday 28 July, Coles will be selling $2 Curing Homesickness Donation Cards for shoppers to add to their basket at the checkout in support of sick kids in hospital.

The two-week donation card campaign is part of the national Curing Homesickness initiative that brings children’s hospitals across Australia together to get sick kids home from hospital sooner.

Donations raised in NSW will directly support Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick to help fund a Child Life Therapist in oncology and a Telehealth Co-ordinator to deliver care to children in regional and rural NSW via a web-based video platform.

One patient who received care from the amazing Child Life Therapy team and Telehealth service is 13-year-old Beni from Wagga.

Beni battled with leukaemia for over five years and spent more than 300 nights in hospital. Her longest stay was 62 days straight and although she’s now back at home in Wagga, she has regular appointments with her doctors in Sydney using Telehealth.

Looking back at her time in Hospital, she remembers missing special moments with her brother and grandma as well as her mum’s famous cooking!

Nicola Stokes, CEO of Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation said: “We’re hoping everyone will get behind this latest campaign from Coles and Curing Homesickness to let sick kids and their families know we’re thinking of them and help raise much-needed funds. If your child has ever been in hospital or if you know a family member or friend who has had a child in hospital or if you simply want to help, please buy one of these special cards when you next shop at Coles.”

Please visit your local Coles supermarket to pick up a $2 donation card to support Curing Homesickness to help more sick kids like Beni get home sooner. In-store until Tuesday 28 July.
