Operation Art 2020 Touring Exhibition

Artworks from schools across NSW in support of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead

Operation Art is the premier statewide visual arts exhibition for students from Kindergarten to Year 10. It is a unique contemporary children’s exhibition which encourages students to create artworks for children in hospital. Operation Art focuses on creating a positive environment to aid the healing and recovery process of young patients.

Background

Operation Art started 26 years ago as an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in association with the NSW Department of Education when It was determined that art works by school students should become a part of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead’s art collection.

Operation Art pieces are now hung as part of the permanent collection in the hospital alongside those of well-known contemporary artists and are amongst the most popular on display. Other Operation Artworks are donated to 5 regional hospitals every year in an official handover.

How it works

Every year schools across New South Wales are invited to participate in Operation Art, an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in association with the New South Wales Department of Education. The Operation Art program provides a forum for schools and students to demonstrate their visual arts achievements through exhibitions at the Armory Gallery, Sydney Olympic Park and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

This touring exhibition comprises 50 selected artworks from the 2019 Operation Art main exhibition. These works will tour to the galleries during 2020 and 2021 and will then be given to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead as part of their permanent collection.

This exhibition is part of a non-selling display. At the close of the exhibition, artworks will be returned to their talented creators.
